During this two-year course you will develop a detailed knowledge of how the political system works.
Over the duration of the course you will understand the process and reasoning behind law-making, and what impact and influence it has on society. You will discuss voting behaviour, the electoral system, political ideologies, and the legislative process, to help you gain a better understanding of the subject. Using historical examples you will also realise how politics has influenced every major human event in history.
This course will give you the knowledge and understanding that you need to make informed opinions about a range of political topics such as a coalition government and its legitimacy in pushing through radical reforms, as well as the quality of democracy that exists in our society.
You will study modules on:
- Voting behaviour
- Electoral systems
- Ideology and pressure groups
- Historical events
- How our political system operates
To apply for this course you will need to meet the minimum requirements of 5 Grade 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English).
Your assessment will be entirely through exams.
There may be some additional costs during the course for trips and visits to further your learning such as visiting the Houses of Parliament.
This course would be good to study alongside other A-Level subjects such as, Economics, Law, History, or Sociology. It is held in high esteem by Oxbridge and Russell Group universities and allows for progression to university courses in Government and Politics, Law, Economics and Politics, Journalism, or International Relations.
There are a number of career opportunities available to you such as becoming a Lawyer, a Political journalist, a Politician, or Parliamentary assistant.
