Philosophy and Ethics AS and A2 level at Monks Walk School

Course description

Religious Studies is ideally suited to students who have enquiring minds and who enjoy considering open ended questions; they should also enjoy debate, discussion and argument.

Ethics focuses on theories about how and why we act; Philosophy is the history of ideas about life.

Course content

At AS, students study the Philosophy of Religion, looking at traditional arguments for the existence of God, and challenges to religious belief. They also study Religious Ethics which covers ethical theory and practical ethics such as dilemmas faced currently in medicine.

At A2 Philosophy focuses on the way we talk and think about God and issues of Faith. In Ethics students will build upon ethical theory and applied ethics such as the role of the conscience.

Entry requirements

A*- B at GCSE, equivalent or similar subject. GCSE B or above in English. APS: 40 or above.

Future opportunities

Religious Studies A level is highly respected by colleges and universities, and students could go on to study a variety of subjects at Higher Education.
