Level 2 Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care at Leeds City College
Over the year you will study functional skills/GCSE in Maths and English as required and up to 2 vocational qualifications. These can include:
- Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Award in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Setting.
If you're over 19 you can also study this course part time.
You will learn through taught classes, activities, visits and work experience.

- Safeguarding and protection
- Duty of care
- The role of the social care worker
- Person-centred approaches
- Health and Safety
- Handling Information
- Principles of infection prevention and control
- Causes and spread of infection
- Dementia awareness
- Rights and choices for individuals with dementia
You will need GCSE's at grade D (3) in English and Maths (or equivalent). We would also take in account prior experience and general suitability for working in this sector. All applicants must have a successful interview and a satisfactory reference. All candidates must be committed to working in the Health and Social Care sector, be caring, creative and energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.
To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, students will need to complete an enhanced disclosure check for the Disclosure and Barring Services. The college will organise this for you but if your course is not fully funded (ie; you are not 16-18 or on certain benefits) then you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the DBS Check is £54. Full details regarding payment and documents required will be provided prior to enrolment.
You will be assessed through your course work and work placement.
You will receive advice on careers and further study during your course. After successful completion of the course you can choose to:
Apply for an apprenticeship or traineeship in Health and Social Care/Clinical Support Work.
Apply for a level 2 or 3 course in Health and Social Care or Childcare.
Apply for other level 2 or 3 courses.
