Elite Rugby Programme at Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The Elite Rugby Programme will combine students love of rugby with their academic pursuits. Rugby will occupy one option block alongside Wednesday afternoon Sixth Form games sessions. The structure will involve 3 periods of individual / unit / team training coached with the support of external coaches. Two periods of strength and conditioning training and Wednesday afternoon games / training.

Course content

As part of the course students will have the opportunity to complete courses through the RFU, the majority of which will be run on site. These include: Rugby Ready, Rugby Level 1, Rugby Scrum Factory, Entry Level Referee. Students will use these qualifications to develop their own coaching / teaching skills, working with Key Stage 3 students at the school, Key Stage 2 students at local primary schools and mini / junior players at local rugby clubs.


The coaching and officiating courses will be the only assessed elements of the course. These will be assessed practically.

Future opportunities

On completion of the course students will have the foundations to compete at University / Adult level in rugby alongside the entry level qualifications for both coaching and officiating.
