Animal Management BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 90 credit Diploma in Animal Management is a mix of both practical and theoretical work. You will progress through the qualification by working in a realistic workplace environment supported by taught theory sessions, work experience placements and by the completion of assignments.

This course will give you a broad base of experience to prepare you for work in the industry or for progression to Higher Education if you achieve the required point profile. Having completed the one year 90 -credit diploma there is the possibility for students to progress on to a second year to complete the extended diploma in Animal Management. 

Course content

The course covers a wide variety of modules and may include:

  • Animal Health
  • Animal Handling
  • Feeding and Accommodation
  • Animal Nursing
  • Animal Behaviour
  • Animal Welfare and Breed Development
  • Wildlife Populations, Ecology and Conservation
  • Inheritance and Genetics
  • Zoological Animal Health and Husbandry

Entry requirements

Candidates who have completed Level 2 achieving a Merit grade overall or who have an interest in and some experience of working with animals. Four GCSEs at Grade C or above - one in Science and English are also critical for this course.


Practical demonstration, portfolio of evidence and assignment.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

Students generally progress onto the Extended Diploma in Animal Management with the potential to progress to a Higher Education course, however direct entry to full time employment or an animal based apprenticeship are also possible career paths. Career opportunities within the animal industry on successful completion of the Diploma may include: Kennel/cattery supervisor, Assistant dog groomer, rescue centre supervisor, wildlife rehabilitation officer.
