Mathematics A Level at St John's Marlborough

Course description

At A level the students will cover three units. The first two are Pure Maths. There is also an Applications of Maths unit.

Course content

Pure Maths underpins all of the other branches within A Level Mathematics and builds on many of the topics covered at GCSE. The topics include Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus and Proof. The Applications of Maths unit will take the mathematics studied in GCSE and the Pure Maths modules and apply it to Statistics and Mechanics.

Entry requirements

Grade 7 or above in GCSE Mathematics AND the recommendation of the GCSE Mathematics teacher. Students are also expected to complete some preparation work over the summer holidays and are to be able to demonstrate sound GCSE algebra skills in the first few weeks of the course.

Students considering Maths A Level should discuss this with their class teachers.

There are three two hour exams, one for each unit. Each one is out of 100 marks.
