Music Performance and Technology BTEC Diploma Level 2 at New College Telford
This course is designed to enable students to develop a range of skills needed in the music industry. You need to be committed and hardworking, and work well in group situations. The course involves practical and written assignments in class, and practical/performance projects.
You will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the music industry. Students will study units in two main specialist areas: Music Performance- includes rehearsing as an ensemble, personal practice and developing technical skills, performing at gigs & planning an event. Music Technology- covers planning recording sessions, multi-track recording, editing and mixing, planning, developing, delivering and promoting a CD. There are also the core/mandatory units which cover the music industry as a whole, music and production analysis and research techniques. Assessment will be through practical and written assignments in class and practical/performance projects. The course is also assessed through two written examinations.
Four GCSEs at grade C to E with GCSE English and Maths grade D (5) or above preferred. Alternatively Level 1 / 2 vocational qualifications. If you do not have grade C (4) or above in English Language or Maths, you will also study these subjects as an essential part of your programme of study. For all students there will be an assessment of practical skills at a taster session. Some skills on an instrument or voice (singing) are required.
Successful completion of this course can lead to related BTEC Level 3 Certificate or Subsidiary Diploma courses, depending on other qualifications you have and your interests.
This course is usually taken alongside English or Maths GCSEs or Functional Skills, where required.
