Sport at Charnwood College

Course description

Why should you consider taking this course?

There are two courses to choose from: the 13-unit Diploma course worth the equivalent of two A Levels, and the 7-unit Introductory Diploma course (one A level). Both courses cover a two-year programme of study with the emphasis being placed upon a ‘hands on’ practical approach. The units studied will provide students with first-hand experience of a wide range of study areas in sport including first aid, refereeing and coaching and the possibility of gaining awards.

Entry requirements

What qualifications will you need to start this course?

Suitable for all pathways provided you have attained a grade C in GCSE PE, gained BTEC. Sport (level 2) at Merit level and above.


How will you be assessed?

There is no formal examination. The course is based on 100% continuous assessment of a portfolio throughout the two year course, with external moderation. The vocational nature of the subject allows for a good deal of practical work and assessment in certain units. Units are gained at either Pass, Merit or Distinction level. It is the intention of the PE department that Units will be completed to Distinction level.
