Course description

Are you interested in a career in music and want to improve your technique, musicianship and performance skills? Do you want to study in a stimulating music environment with a variety of professional musicians and practitioners?

If so, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music is the course for you! Study will combine both practical and theoretical subjects which will enable you to develop your understanding of music theory, composition, the industry and the stylistic and historical breadth of modern music, alongside focussed development of your practical rehearsal and performance skills. This course is ideally suited to anyone seeking to study higher level music at a specialist contemporary music school and/or university or for those intending to work in a music performance related industry.

Entry requirements

You will need to have at least:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C / grade 4 or above including English Language, or;
  • Level 2 qualification in a relevant vocational subject area and GCSE English Language at grade C / grade 4 or above.

You will also need to attend an audition. Details will be sent to you following a successful interview.

Mature students without formal qualifications who show commitment to the subject area may be able to join the course following a successful interview and audition.


You will be assessed through the completion of assignments and performance-related projects throughout the course. Attendance and application in all areas is essential for successful completion.
