Animation for Creative Digital Media BTEC Foundation / Extended Diploma – Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

This course is designed to develop your creative and technical knowledge of animation in creative digital media. Over two years, you will learn computer-based and traditional animation skills such as stop motion, 2D /3D techniques and 3D modelling and environments. You are encouraged to develop your own vision and will be expected to generate ideas, scripts and storyboards to establish your own creative individuality.
 

Course content

This course is designed to develop your creative and technical knowledge of animation in creative digital media. Over two years, you will learn computer-based and traditional animation skills such as stop motion, 2D /3D techniques and 3D modelling and environments. You are encouraged to develop your own vision and will be expected to generate ideas, scripts and storyboards to establish your own creative individuality.

Some of the subjects within the course may include:
• Digital Media Skills
• Pre Production Portfolio
• Film Production
• Scriptwriting/Storyboarding for Digital Media
• 2D Animation
• 3D Digital Animation
• 3D Modelling/Environments
• Digital Games Production.

Educational visits will also form an integral part of the curriculum. Dedicated sessions will investigate and define
HE pathways and progression during year 2. GCSE resits/functional skills are also embedded into your programme of study.

Entry requirements

For entry 16/17:

4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language OR BTEC Level 2 in Media. You will also be asked to attend an interview.

For entry 17/18:

3 GCSEs at grade C and a grade 4 in English OR BTEC Level 2 in Media. You will also be asked to attend an interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework for both practical and theoretical elements and in the form of two short, paper-based exams.

The form of assessment on the course will assist you as you progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications, by providing independent assessment evidence of learning alongside a practical portfolio-based assessment.

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

You may progress onto a HNC/HND in Creative Media Production or a degree in Animation or a subject related to Animation. Career opportunities include working within the TV and Film industries or Interactive Media sector.
