Information Technology BTEC 90-Credit Diploma-Extended Diploma Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

Do you love all things IT? This study programme gives you the chance to gain a valuable IT qualification that will prepare you well both for further study or the world of work.

We have dedicated ICT teaching rooms, as well as computers available in the learning centre with flexible opening hours to enable students easy access to computers for independent study.

Course content

The qualification covers a wide range of IT-related subjects from how a computer works to creating content managed websites.

You will study a general range of subjects in the first year of the programme including Computer Systems, Graphics, and Web Programming.

The second year of the programme builds on the knowledge base you built in the first year, among the exciting possibilities is the chance to study Games Hardware and Design.

Entry requirements

All entrants must hold GCSE English Language at grade 4/5 or above and preferably GCSE Maths at grade 4/5 or above, amongst the 5 GCSEs at grade C required for entry.

Entrants not holding a grade 4 in Maths, but who have a grade 2/3, will study GCSE Maths and take the examination at the end of the year. Completing first years will not be able to automatically continue into their second year without achieving GCSE Maths at grade 4.

Just as important as your formal qualifications is your enthusiasm for IT. You must be willing to develop a good all round knowledge of IT and be able to prepare accurate reports on your research and work.

Assessment

All learners are given the opportunity to raise their aspirations and improve their grade profiles by revisiting assignment tasks during the integrated upgrade weeks.

Future opportunities

Many students decide to progress to a Foundation Degree in Computing at Petroc or progress on to degree courses at many of the country's leading universities.
