Physical Education A Level at New Mills School and Sixth Form

Course description

The A-Level course is designed to encourage pupils to take a broad view of sport and Physical Education. We aim to develop students' ability for critical thinking and to appreciate the relationship between different aspects of the subject. We will give students an understanding of the factors that influence performance and participation in physical activity and be able to apply them to different situations in activities.

This two year course builds on students' experience from Key Stage 4 to enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in Physical Education. The qualification aims to equip students with skills and knowledge required for higher education or the world of work.

If you are interested in the wider aspects of sport — performer, official, coach/teacher, leader/organiser or observer you will enjoy this course.

Our qualified and experienced staff will advise and support pupils throughout the delivery of the course and our target is always to fulfill the potential of all pupils.

Course content

The content addresses contemporary topics in sport, such as the impact in the use of ergogenic aids, sport technology and the increasing commercialisation of sport.

Entry requirements

We do recommend that students have experience of Key Stage 4 Physical Education but it is not essential for pupils to have studied GCSE PE or equivalent. However, it is desirable for candidates to have Grades A-C in English, Maths and Science.

You will be asked to complete a combination of assessments through practical performance, written and recorded coursework and formal examination.
