Course description

This qualification is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment in the business sector, particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use communication and IT skills, liaise with customers and carry out customer-facing operational roles. It is equivalent to two GCSE's.

This qualification is also suitable for those wishing to gain a level 1 or level 2 qualification to support further study.

It is possible to combine GCSEs with this qualification.

Course content

To achieve this qualification you will study a total of eight units, consisting of two core units, one mandatory unit, and four optional units, one of which is a double unit.


Unit 1: Enterprise in the Business World (assessed through coursework)

Unit 2: Finance for Business (assessed through examination)


Unit 9: Principles of Marketing, (assessed through examination)


Unit 3: Promoting a Brand

Unit 6: Introducing Retail Business

Unit 13: Financial Planning and Forecasting

Unit 14: Business Online (double unit)

Entry requirements

You will need at least a grade 3 in GCSE English and Maths or a level 1 qualification in business or ICT.


Overall, five units are assessed through coursework and two are externally assessed.

This course can lead to employment in the business sector, or further learning alongside employment through an apprenticeship. Combined with other qualifications, it can also lead to CTEC Level 3 Business.
