Construction and Built Environment Advanced Diploma at Riverside College Halton

Course description

This course is designed to allow you to develop the required skills for entry into the construction industry at a professional level. You will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of higher level skills including construct technology & design, CAD & planning, organisation & control within the construction industry.

Course content

On this course you will develop an understanding of the extent and significance of the built environment and what shapes, develops and influences it. You could, for example, produce a report about urban design, where you include proposals and strategies for improving infrastructure and transport services in your area. This will involve explaining regulatory requirements and other legislation that is part of the planning process.

You'll gain great insight into the different construction and built environment industries and you will learn how site developments affect the communities that use them.

The Diploma programme also gives you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in any particular areas of the industry that interest you, by studying some specialist courses relating to that area. You will also continue to develop your English, maths and ITC, and personal, learning and thinking skills such as team working and time management. Work experience and the completion of a project is also a vital part of the course, please see page 18 for more details of the Diploma programme.

Entry requirements

You need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at a grade A* to C including maths and science. English should be at a grade B or above.

Future opportunities

This Diploma could lead you to a university degree in construction management, building services engineering, housing practice, planning or architecture. Or it could help you begin a career as a building services contractor, construction worker, electrician, engineer, urban planner, property developer, estate agent, restorer of old buildings or architect.
