Course description

Chemistry is about the very essence of life, the quality of life and its continuous improvement. A qualification in chemistry can take you anywhere. From developing life-enhancing drugs to designing a new beer, from the law to the environment, from clothing to food, from health to manufacturing, from aviation to the City, chemistry and chemical scientists make a major impact on, and play a vital role in, our daily life.

At AS/A2 Level we study different aspects of chemistry that are often in the media and that affect our lives including: Climate change, Green chemistry, Pharmaceuticals, Chemistry research.
The content of the AS/A2 Level includes the fundamental concepts of chemistry necessary for progression into higher education and employment, but allows students time to study the units in depth and provides a very practical experience for all students. This ensures that both the teaching and learning experiences are enjoyable.
Additionally, many students are required to study AS/A2 Level chemistry in order to qualify for higher level study in the environmental sciences, biochemistry, and medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary sciences.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a B if the subject was taken as a separate science at GCSEMinimum of BA if Core and Additional Science was taken.Minimum of B grade in Mathematics*APS: over 43 if more than one science to be studied
