Art and Design – Textiles (AS and A Level) at Morecambe Community High School

Course description

This course is for those of you who enjoy making and thinking about Textiles. You will be encouraged to use your intellectual, imaginative and creative skills to interpret your ideas and create inspired textile pieces.

Course content

The First Year A/S level

Unit 1: Portfolio of work
1 coursework unit covering the areas of study; skills and techniques, knowledge and understanding.

Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment
1 unit comprising up to 1 term of prep-work and a 10 hour exam.

The Second Year A2 level

Unit 3: Personal Investigation
1 coursework unit covering the; areas of study, skills and techniques, knowledge and understanding and also the four assessment objectives.

Unit 4: The Externally Set Assignment
1 unit comprising approximately 1 term prep-work and a 15 hour terminal exam.


50% Unit 1 Portfolio of work
50% Unit 2 Exam and Preparatory studies

50% Unit 3 Personal Investigation
50% Unit 4 Terminal Exam and Preparatory studies

Future opportunities

Textiles is useful for anyone considering a career in fashion or design at any level. You will develop good research skills, with focus on presentation and interpretation. Students completing this course will have a thorough knowledge of a wide range of techniques relevant to the Art/Textiles industries.
