Course description

This qualification enables learners to develop practical scientific skills and will appeal to students who prefer portfolio-based assessment rather than examinations. Units covered include laboratory, forensic, medical, environmental, biological, chemical and physical

Course content:

Mandatory (core) units: 

  • Fundamentals of Science
  • Working in the Science Industry
  • Scientific Investigations
  • Scientific Practical Techniques
  • Perceptions of Science
  • Using Mathematical Tools in Science

After completion of the core units you might specialise in the area that you are most interested in by selecting units to tailor your own course from a comprehensive list of units for each area.

The specialist units are:

  • Forensic Science
  • Medical Science
  • Polymer Technology
  • Metallurgy

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C, including English, Maths and Science.
