GCSE: Design and Technology - Food Technology at Ashby School
Course description
Students work with food in practical lessons, as well as thinking about nutritional guidelines, financial resources, personal lifestyles and eating habits. Food Technology students need to bring ingredients for practical lessons. The aim of the course is to encourage students to be self-reliant and to make independent choices about food and equipment. They also gain an awareness of the new food products made possible by advances in food technology.

Students should have an interest in food and nutritional issues.
Future opportunities
This course provides a useful background for students interested in pursuing a career in a food-based industry.Students can take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology. Alternatively, they may need to strengthen their grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, students may choose a career related to Design and Technology. Students can also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of an employer.
