Course description

The specification involves knowledge and understanding of how the human body functions from cellular to organ systems level. It teaches how structure is related to function and how different parts of the body communicate to control biological processes.

Course content

What you will do·        Learn about the bio-chemistry of the cell.·        Learn how the body systems function.·        Practical investigations.·        Learn about microscopy.AS Level Units.  Unit 1: Molecules and cells, Enzymes, Genetic Code.  Unit 2: Exchange, Transport Adaptation and Reproduction.  This includes Human Ecology.A2 Level Units.  Unit 4: Respiration and co-ordination.  This includes Human Health and Fitness.  Unit 5: Genetics, Human evolution and Biodiversity.  Unit 6: Synoptic Test.  includes 2 structure questions and one essay.  Individual study.

Entry requirements

Minimum grade B at Higher level Double Science.Minimum grade B/C at Higher level in 2 of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

Assessment

Individual coursework studies.  Unit exams.

Future prospects·        This is helpful for all careers in the medical profession (for medical it should be combined with Chemistry/Maths/Physics at ‘A’ Level).·        Careers in Food Technology and Health and Social Care.Careers in Hospital laboratories.
