Land Based Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at Craven College

Course description

If you love working in a practical environment and outdoors setting, the Land-based Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship could be the perfect fit for you. Train in how to maintain and repair mechanised equipment used in agriculture, horticulture and other land-based industries. 

You will work with all types of agricultural and horticultural machinery; from tractors to chainsaws, quad Bikes to lawnmowers. A key part of any operation is well maintained equipment and quick, effective solutions to unforeseen problems. You may be working in a main dealership servicing and maintaining modern equipment or working for agricultural engineers who specialise in all aspects of engineering and fabrication. The land-based industry is diverse and the correct use of its machinery and equipment is essential to its daily running and successes. 

Course content

Level 2 Diploma in Land Based Engineering Operations units include:
• Engine Operation, Cooling, Lubrication & Fuel 
• Hydraulic Systems 
• Maintain & Condition of Tractors and Machinery 
• Move Loads 
• Power Transmission Systems 
• Remove and Replace Components 
• Repair Components by Soldering and Welding  
Additional Study
• Functional Skills in Math & English 
• Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) 
• Employee Rights & Responsibilities 
• Other industry certificates may be required such as First Aid 

Entry requirements

  • Employment within the industry


An assessor will visit the workplace regularly to assess your competence and to help you build a portfolio of evidence. You will attend college one day per week to complete the Technical Certificate.
