Business Studies AS & A Level at Christ The King Catholic High School and Sixth Form Centre
The Business A Level is a two year course and the AS Level is a one year course both aimed at providing students with a high level of understanding of many areas of business. The units covered are designed to provide students with core knowledge, understanding and skills covering the main functions of business from marketing, human resources and finance to motivation, production and economic influences.
Students will study variety of business topics including:
- What is Business?
- Managers, Leadership and Decision Making
- Operational Performance
- Human Resources
Students will develop core knowledge, understanding and skills in four key areas:
- Analysing the strategic position of busines
- Choosing strategic direction
- Strategic methods
- Managing strategic change
Route 1 - Grade B in a related subject
Route 2 - Grade B in a related subject

Students may complete the AS examinations in the summer of Year 12. Students will then complete the A Level examination in Year 13.
Students will complete two exam papers covering all AS topics, which will include multiple choice, data response questions and questions based on a compulsory case study.
Students will complete three exam papers covering all AS/A Level topics, which will include multiple choice, data response questions, essay questions and questions based on a compulsory case study.
A business AS/A Level can lead to either employment or higher education. Careers could be pursued in a variety of businesses from administration and IT services, to sales and marketing, research, accounting, insurance, legal and financial services and retail management. There are also several large businesses which have management training schemes that could be applied for. You could also easily move on to university to study for a degree or similar level course in a wide range of subejcts after achieveing your A Level. Whatever you decide to do next, a Business AS/A Level will allow you to keep your options open.
