Course description

This course will give students an insight into why people behave in certain ways and what motivates human behaviour. Psychology provides a strong academic background complimenting many other A Level courses.

It will benefit a variety of careers including nursing, medicine, teaching, police and the media as well as providing fundamental and lasting personal insights.

Course content

Social Influence – Obedience and conformity.
Cognitive Psychology – The nature of memory.
Developmental Psychology – Attachments between parent and child.
Psychopathology – OCD, Depression and Phobias.
Approaches – including Bio Psychology.
Research Methods
Issues and Debates
Gender – Biological and psychological explanations of gender development.
Schizophrenia – The nature and treatments of schizophrenia.
Aggression – Biological and psychological factors influencing aggression.

Assessment

Unit 1 – Social, Memory, Attachment & Psychopathology
Written exam: 2 hours, 96 marks in total, 33.3% of A-level

Unit 2 – Approaches, Biopsychology & Research Methods, Written exam: 2 hours 96 marks in total, 33.3% of A-level

Unit 3 – Issues and Debates, Schizophrenia, Aggression & Gender, Written exam: 2 hours 96 marks in total, 33.3% of A-level
