Creative Digital Media Production Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

This is an exciting full-time course in Media which is equivalent to 3 A Levels at the end of the second year. You will study for a Diploma in year one and Extended Diploma in year two. It is an opportunity for you to understand more about the scope of creative digital media production and develop knowledge about the creative media industries. It is both practical and theoretical.

Course content

In Year one you will study for two exam units in Media Representations and Responding to a Commission. You will also study a variety of internally assessed units such as a pre-production portfolio, media campaigns, film production, radio production, digital magazine production, advertising and news. In Year Two you will also study units in working in the Creative Media Industry, scriptwriting, camera techniques, digital magazine production and much more.

Entry requirements

All entrants must hold GCSE English Language at grade 4/5 or above and preferably GCSE Maths at grade 4/5 or above, amongst the 5 GCSEs at grade C required for entry. 

Entrants not holding a grade 4 in Maths, but who have a grade 2/3, will study GCSE Maths and take the examination at the end of the year. Completing first years will not be able to automatically continue into their second year without achieving GCSE Maths at grade 4.

You will need GCSE Maths and English Language at Grade 4 or above and at least 3 other GCSEs at Grade C or above. You do not need to have studied GCSE Media Studies but if you did you will need to have achieved a grade C or above.

Assessment

In year one there are two exams and four internally assessed units and in year two there are a further two exams and 5 internally assessed units.

Future opportunities

The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points, and as it is equivalent in size to 3 A levels. The qualification meets admission requirements for a range of related higher education courses such as:

  • BA (Hons) Media Studies
  • BA (Hons) Computer Animation
  • BA (Hons) Media Production
  • BA (Hons) Film
  • BA (Hons) Digital Television Production
  • BSc (Hons) Broadcast Audio Technology
