Course description

Are you willing to explore new ideas and take risks? Are you interested in other art forms? Do you work well with others, and also on your own initiative? Do you have good organisational skills? Are you able to work to deadlines? Are you interested in working in the Performing Arts Industry? Then YES this is the right subject for you!

Course content

The Performance element of the course involves Drama, Music and Dance. You will take part in a series of workshops which will develop your skills in all of these areas. This may involve working with theatre professionals as well as weekly practical workshops from teaching staff. You then perform a published piece of work written by a playwright.In Unit one of the 1styear students have the opportunity to make links with local theatres and Performing Arts organisations and to work with people within the industry.The Production element may include marketing, arts administration, front of house arrangements, scheduling of rehearsals and resources, stage management, etc. You will take a role in bringing a production or event into operation and write a report which evaluates strengths of the team in organising an event.

Entry requirements

  The general entry requirements for studying at Advanced level apply. Some previous experience in Music, Drama or Dance is required - although you don't need to have followed an exam course.


  While developing your own skills, you will gain insights into the industry by completed assignments that investigate how performing arts organisations work.

Future opportunities

 Current employment opportunities and the issues facing professionals working within the performing arts sector are all explored as well as you being given the opportunity to develop as a performer.
