AS / A Level - Statistics at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

Understanding statistics is a vital part of many professions such as management and healthcare.  This course builds upon the data handling topics you have studied as part of your Maths GCSE.  You should seriously consider A Level Statistics if you enjoy analysing data and creating graphs. Although it is a challenging subject, it is also extremely rewarding.

Course content


AS Statistics Year includes:

  • Probability and correlation
  • Sampling and hypothesis testing
  • The binomial, poisson and normal distributions.

A2 Statistics Year includes:

  • Confidence intervals
  • approximating distributions
  • goodness of fit tests
  • ANOVA and control charts

Entry requirements

We prefer you to have at least a grade B in GCSE Mathematics. You do not need to have taken GCSE Statistics.


100% exam in both AS and A2.

Exam board: AQA

Future opportunities

Having knowledge of statistical techniques is highly regarded by employers and universities. A level statistics is a excellent complementary subject for students who are studying Psychology, Biology, ForensicScience, Business Studies and Geography.
