Media Studies at Carlton le Willows Academy
This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to develop a critical awareness and understanding of the media and the role it plays in society. Throughout the course, students demonstrate understanding of technical skills in their own media production and engage in creative, imaginative and aesthetic activities.
Unit MS1: Media Representations and Responses
This unit aims to provide students with a framework for analysing the media and requires them to explore representations and audience responses. Students will be encouraged to explore the media through a study of genre, narrative and representation and make connections between the texts and audience responses to them. The representations of social/cultural groups, events, issues and their underlying messages and values will be explored using a range of approaches.
Students may be asked to analyse any form of media in the exam, so studies of the following will be covered in class:
newspaper front pages
magazines (including comics)
computer game extracts.
B grade in Media Studies or B grade in English Language and English Literature
