Building Maintenance Level 2 Diploma at New College Durham

Course description

This course is designed to develop the skills for those working in industry in a multi skilled environment.  The course covers a range of construction crafts dealing with maintenance and repair.

Course content

For this award you will study a range of both knowledge and practical units which will lead to job knowledge and synoptic tests.  These units will cover the following subjects:

  • Information, Quantities and Communication
  • Building Methods and Construction Technology
  • Masonry Repairs
  • Painting, Decorating and Associated Repairs
  • Plastering and Repairs
  • Plumbing Repairs
  • Carpentry and Joinery Repairs
  • Safe Working Practices

The main qualification will be part of a study programme which will include functional skills to develop Literacy and Numeracy, personal development will be built into the course to improve work and life skills. Assessment is on-going throughout the course buy means of multiple choice unit end tests as well as synoptic practical tests, with completion of the course by an on-line multiple choice exam.

Entry requirements

A Level 1 Diploma in a construction trade is required as part of admission procedure you will have an interview with a member of staff and undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to judge skill level and provide support
