Maths (GCSE) at Stanmore College

Course description

The course is consistent with the requirements of the English National Curriculum for Mathematics. This course is aimed at learners who wish to achieve a grade C in GCSE Mathematics.

This course is forAdult Learners

Entry requirements

Grade D at GCSE Maths or completed Level 1 Adult Numeracy or Functional Skills.

Assessment

The course will cover the following topics and the requirement is that students can demonstrate their knowledge, understand and skills in these topics: 
AO1: Using and applying mathematics - problem solving, reasoning and communicating. 
AO2: Number and algebra - the number system, calculations, solving numerical problems, equations and formulae, identities, sequences and functions, graphs.
AO3: Shape, space and measure - geometrical reasoning, transformations and coordinates, measures and construction. 
AO4: Handling data - specifying the problem and planning, collecting data, processing and presenting data, interpreting and discussing results.

Future opportunities

GCSE Mathematics is a main requirement to progress to HE or employment and for Trainee teachers. Any Level 3 Programme. Most employers require GCSE Mathematics.
