Design and Technology: Product Design (Graphic Products) at The Joseph Whitaker School

Course description

  This course continues to build on knowledge and skills developed during the GCSE Graphic Products course.

Students can study the course for one year at AS level or for two years to A2 Level.

Students continue to develop their designing and practical skills through challenging coursework projects.

Students will develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of materials and processes used to produce everyday products.

Visits to local businesses, factories and Universities are undertaken to improve students’ understanding of industrial practices and the design industry.

IT skills are used to support design and development through the use of Pro Desktop, Adobe Photoshop, 2D Design and Google Sketch-up in order to provide students with the correct skills for further education in the design industry.

Both AS/A2 courses provide opportunities to develop creativity and innovation related to the design and manufacture of products, architecture, components and systems.

If you enjoyed GCSE Graphic Products, then you will also enjoy the A-Level course.

You can only choose to study EITHER Resistant Materials OR Graphic Products (not both).

Entry requirements

5 A*-C in GCSE subjects . Grade B in chosen subjects
