Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship - Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

An Apprenticeship offers the combined benefits of work experience and supported academic learning at college. Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. As an employed person, you will earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace.

The Apprenticeship you will study will depend on your job role, but will follow one of the following pathways:

  • Mechanical manufacturing
  • Engineering maintenance
  • Fabrication and welding
  • Materials processing and finishing
  • Engineering technical support
  • Electrical and electronic engineering.

As an apprentice you will come to college one day per week to study a qualification. The exact qualification will depend on the engineering pathway chosen for your Apprenticeship and the needs of the individual/employer. Possible options for the day release programme include:

  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Casting Technology
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

The exact unit content of these qualifications will be discussed at interview.

In addition to this, you will be assessed at work against a suitable NVQ that is relevant to your job role (see pathways above). You will undertake class work relating the theory to the practical training in order to meet the requirements of the NVQ qualification.
