Animation BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at New College Nottingham
This two year course is the perfect step to take if you're looking to pursue a career in the animation industry. The UK animation industry contributes
around £400m towards the UK economy each year with job opportunities in the Television, Feature Film, Advertising, Social Media and Gaming.
This course combines the artistic and creative aspects of animation with the required practical and technical expertise in order to complete a range of in-house projects, competitions and live industry briefs. During your time on the course you will develop a wide range of skills and techniques in a number of animation styles including Stop-Motion, Digital Character Animation, Motion Graphics and Visual / Special Effects.
Alongside all of this you'll be studying in Nottingham's Creative Quarter, right in the heart of the action, with access to all of the latest top of the range equipment.

If you want to develop a solid base of technical skills, along with an understanding of how to make a professional quality animation, then this is
the course for you. The course aims to prepare you for progression into higher education and employment and you will leave the course with professional training in the most up to date and relevant industry software such as the full Adobe Creative Suite, Dragonframe,
3DS Max and Cinema 4D.
Students will also be supported in applying for jobs and building a suitable portfolio for interviews and prospective clients.
You must have ONE of the following:
- Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design, Fashion or Media at merit, plus GCSE English or Maths at grade A*-C
- 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English or Maths
- Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and/or English
A portfolio of art & design work is required.
This course is aimed at students who want to develop a solid base of technical skills, along with an understanding of the real design process. It would suit those who are aiming to gain employment in the design industry, to work as freelance designers or continue into further or higher education.
Applications from mature students without formal qualifications are welcomed.
Adults 19+ who have industry experience BUT do not have the necessary qualifications can be invited in for interview.
Assessment is continuous and will consist of a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects plus a final major project at the end of the year.
After you've completed this course there's a load of options available to you for further progression. You could go on to study on a foundation degree in multimedia or a degree-level programme in digital media or other higher education courses in the creative sphere.
