Health and Social Care - Level 3 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This course is delivered by highly experienced health and social care professionals who can give you a real insight in the Health and Social Care sector.

You will have an exciting and challenging experience using our simulation hospital ward and the chance to practice your skills in a work placement.

During your course we will support you to progress to the career you want, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet individuals from various roles in the health and social care sector to help you make the right choices for your future.

Course content

You will develop your team work and communication skills, as well as practical and planning skills with the support of your tutors and peers.

You will develop knowledge of how the body works, equality and diversity, psychology, public health and the many roles within the health and social care sector.

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs grade C or above, including English or Maths
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance
  • 2 references
  • Caring and compassionate nature


We will assess you throughout your programme of study, and support you to improve your grades as you progress.

Assessment is carried out in various ways, including through written work like reports and essays, as well as presentations and discussions. We will also assess your practical skills, for example carrying out experiments or demonstrating caring skills in the simulation hospital.

Future opportunities

Throughout your course your personal tutor will support you on your progression journey. You will have the opportunity to discover a wide range of progression opportunities whether it be in employment or higher education. Guest speakers, visits, open days and other events with employers and Universities will be available for you to attend to support your progression options. We will help you with developing your CV, writing your personal statement and applying to University. Many of our learners progress onto courses including Healthcare Practice, Social Care and Social Work but there are many more opportunities available.


This qualification could enable you to secure employment in the health and care sector in a supervisory role.
