English GCSE at St Paul's Catholic School
New legislation governing education means that all students in the Sixth Form must study English and / or Mathematics at GCSE if they have not already achieved a grade C or above in either of these subjects.
Sixth Form students have their own re-take GCSE lessons taught by specialist English and Mathematics teachers.
The delivery of the course and the course content is tailored to meet the needs of the older student, The achievement of a grade C in these subjects is vital for progression onto many apprenticeships and all University courses.
Course content: The course will allow students to explore and develop the skills in writing, reading and speaking and listening.
Assessment: 40% of the course is assessed through examination in June, 40% will assess reading and writing skills through coursework and 20% will assess speaking and listening skills through a presentation and discussion on a topic of their choice.
