Art & Design at The Pingle School
The Advanced Subsidiary (AS) forms 50% of the assessment weighting for the full A level (A2). Advanced Subsidiary can be taken as a stand-alone qualification or as part of the full A level course.
Advanced Subsidiary - candidates take units 1 and 2
A level - candidates take units 1, 2, 3 and 4
The examination requirements are:
unit 1: coursework portfolio - AS: 60%, A Level: 30%
unit 2: controlled assignment (5 hours) - AS: 40%, A Level: 20%
unit 3: personal investigation - A Level: 30%
unit 4: controlled assignment (15 hours) - A Level: 20%
All units are marked by teachers in school and moderated by a visiting moderator.
For AS you will normally be expected to have a grade C or above in art at GCSE.
For A2 you should have successfully completed an AS level in art.
