Beauty Therapy (General) L3 Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

It is essential that applicants enjoy meeting people and are able to communicate well. Candidates should be aware they need to be able to stand for long periods of time while completing treatments. Personal professional appearance is essential.

Course content

You will study the following mandatory units, benefiting from both theoretical and practical learning, supported by demonstrations:

- Monitor Procedures to Safely Control Work Operations 
- Contribute to the Planning and Implementation of Promotional Activities 
- Improve Body/Face & Skin Conditioning using Electro-Therapy (two units) 
- Head & Body Massage Treatments 
- Provide Electrical Epilation Treatments
- Provide Stone Therapy Treatments

Entry requirements

Applications are welcome from students who have completed the core units of Level 2 Beauty Therapy and have 5 GCSEs A* - C typically including Maths and English. Functional Skills at Level 2 will be considered.


You will complete written assignments and on-line tests throughout the year, which will involve self-directed study. You are expected to make full use of this time by completing necessary assignments and reading. To assist with research and other work, you will have access to the College's library and IT facilities. 

A designated period of time you will complete managerial duties in 'Images', for example, financial effectiveness, day-to-day running of the beauty salons and writing reports. 
Progress charts are positioned in the salons and you are encouraged to assess your own progress and action plan for written and practical work.

Practical assessments are completed throughout the year. These are carried out on members of the public. Oral questions will accompany these practical assessments.

You are expected to work in the evenings as part of your training.

You will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the year. Guidance will be given on format, but you will be responsible for collecting the actual evidence.

Future opportunities

You will usually progress into employment. Past Level 3 students have become self-employed, running salons and mobile beauty therapy businesses. Others have gained employment in health farms or cruise liners.
