Course description

 The aims of the Chemistry course are to encourage candidates to:-

  • Develop their interests in, and enthusiasm for chemistry, including developing an interest in further study and careers in chemistry;
  • Appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
  • Develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of  How Science Works;
  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of chemistry and how they relate to each other

Course content

F331 Chemistry for life ( Elements of life and Developing Fuels)

F332 Chemistry of natural Resources ( Atmosphere, Elements from the Sea, Polymer Revolution)

F333 Chemistry in Practice ( Chemistry practical exam)

Entry requirements

BB or above in Core and Additional Science or in Chemistry

B in Mathematics

Assessment

F331 and F332 in June of the AS year

F333 (practical Skills ) taken throughout the AS year

Future opportunities

A level Chemistry is essential for Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, and courses such as Chemical Engineering, Forensic science

Many students use A level Chemistry to go into Accountancy, Finance, Economics, Law, Geological Science, Rural Sciences etc
