Fashion Retail ABC Diploma Level 3 at New College Nottingham

Course description

Fashion retail is an ever-changing industry, particularly with the growth of online fashion retail sites and the fact that designer clothing can now be hired. Explore this and more on this two year extended diploma course which will open your eyes up to the many opportunities that exist in fashion retail and help you focus on the particular industry you’d like to work in.

You’ll carry out a work placement as part of the course and alongside this you’ll get to complete a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects.

Our industry links provide amazing opportunities for our students. Our partnership with House of Fraser led to fashion retail students styling and development the look-book used by House of Fraser personal shopper staff to help customers find clothing and accessories based on the latest trends. This is just one example of our students getting real hands on experience in a real working environment.

Course content

Students will study the principles of fashion retailing and must complete 5 mandatory units and 4 optional units which relate directly to the fashion retail sector eg:
 
• Management Skills, 
• Store Operations,
• Buying, 
• Styling, 
• Visual Merchandising.

The delivery will include lectures, tutorials, live assignments, site visits, supervised study and assessment within a simulated or workplace environment. 

Assessment is continuous and will consist of a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects plus a final major project at the end of the year.

Entry requirements

You must have ONE of the following:  

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English or Maths
  • Level 2 qualification at merit, plus GCSE English or Maths at grades A*-C  
  • Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE MAths and/or English

Adults 19+ who have industry experience BUT do not have the necessary qualifications can be invited in for interview.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and will include a portfolio of reports, case studies, presentations and creative projects, plus a final major projects at the end of the year.

Future opportunities

After completing the course you will be able to progress onto the Certificate and Diploma courses in retail and fashion, You could also progress onto the Foundation Degree in Fashion, Business or Retail at ncn.

    • This former lace mill from the 1800s was once the centrepoint of the UK's world renowned lace manufacturing industry but now it's home to more than 50 of ncn's courses, including TV, Film and Digital Industries, Fashion, Multimedia, Games Development, Business and Administration, Aviation, Travel and Tourism, our HE Centre, ICT and many more.

       
      The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city.
       
      Across the road we have our Visual Arts Academy housed within another impressive building located at 25 Stoney Street. Here we have vast rooms and studios with amazing light so that all our art, design and photography students can do their thing.
       
      It's no coincidence that ncn's Visual Arts and Fashion and Media and Digital Academies are in the heart of the Lace Market. The area has been named Nottingham's Creative Quarter where hundreds of small creative businesses operate from. This connnectivity and vibrant environment gives our creative students a head start!
