Foundation Studies in Art and Design Level 3 at Gateshead College
This course is the first step if you want to go to university or want a career in art and design. It's a dynamic, fast-paced way of realising your goals.
The course is divided into three stages:
- Exploratory, You are introduced to a range of art and design disciplines
- Pathways, You choose your own personal artistic direction
- Confirmatory, You write and deliver your own project brief.
You will also be introduced to printmaking, digital media and life drawing (at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art).
The course has been designed to teach you 'how to do' and 'how to think' -- the essential components of success in today's thriving creative industries.
The subjects covered are extensive.
The course includes trips and gallery visits, and concludes with an exhibition of student work.
This course is Level 3 - you will need to have the equivalent of at least four GCSEs at grade C or above - preferably including English and maths.
You will generate a portfolio of evidence during the course that will meet the requirements of the qualification.
Students have progressed to degree courses in fine art, visual communication, animation, illustration, fashion and textiles, theatre design, costume design, photography, games design, interior design and product design.
Fast-track to an apprenticeship
If you can’t find the right apprenticeship vacancy or you want to do some studying first - no problem. You can start on a vocational study programme then once you’re ready and a vacancy becomes available, we’ll help you transfer on to an apprenticeship.
