ICT BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Bath College

Course description

Have you got a particular interest in creating websites or building your own computer game? Would you like to create a short movie? Do you like building and repairing computers? We are offering you the opportunity to develop these skills and gain valuable work-based experience providing IT solutions and support to local customers. There is an opportunity to excel through the completion of real-life projects.

Course content

The BTEC National Level 3 in IT Practitioners is a suite of courses which offer learners a wide range of opportunities to learn and experience different aspects of the IT industry. The suite is made up of BTEC National Award, Certificate and/or Diploma.

During this course, you will study a range of IT and computing-related units, including:

  • Developing computer games
  • Web design
  • Computer systems
  • Managing networks
  • Computer networks
  • Communication technologies
  • IT technical support
  • IT systems troubleshooting and repair
  • Software design and development
  • Information systems
  • Event driven programming
  • Systems analysis and design

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths, or a full Level 2 qualification at merit grade with English and Maths at an appropriate level and a recommendation from your tutor.4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and English,, one of which must be at Grade C or a full relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit grade with English and Maths at an appropriate level.

Assessment

The course is assessed using a set of work-related, real-life assignments and practical issues throughout the course. There are no exams, but you must meet deadlines set for each assignment.

Future opportunities

This qualification is well respected by industry professionals and can lead to employment or apprenticeships in a range of cutting edge jobs in computing, industrial and commercial sectors.

 

Alternatively, you can progress onto higher education such as Foundation Degree or even a full Honours Degree in Computing or related subjects.
