Media Studies A Level at Twynham School

Course description

AS outline

In Unit 1, students will investigate the media in order to understand how texts are created and how and why audiences respond to them. The focus is on contemporary media, and students will look at print texts, eMedia and film.

In Unit 2, students will complete two linked practical productions, one moving image and one print, learning to use programmes such iMovie and Publisher, with one accompanying evaluation.

A2 outline

Students are encouraged to examine and develop their understanding of the media and its influential role in today's society as well as learning about and debating major contemporary media issues. They study two key topics: representation of gender and the impact of new and digital media. They also produce their own case study of a range of texts, for both of these topics.

In Unit 4, students will investigate a media topic/text in more depth, in an area which reflects their own personal interest and write a critical investigation. They then produce a practical production piece reflecting this research.
