Countryside and Environment Level 2 Diploma at Writtle University College

Course description

This course is for those thinking about a career in the countryside. It provides an introduction to countryside management, though class based sessions but has an emphasis on developing practical skills.

Course content

Units of study include: Ecology of Trees, Techniques in Surveying Habitats, Machinery maintenance, Tractor Driving, Estate Skills, Environmental Business. You will also undertake functional skills in English, an industry recognised qualification. You will also have the opportunity to undertake specialist NPTC or LANTRA courses, which are run through our short courses department.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements; four GCSEs at grade A-D with at least one grade C in English, Maths or Science. In addition you must show a keen interest in the countryside and its wildlife.

Assessment

Each of the units includes pass, merit and distinction criteria. Assessment is through a wide range of methods including practical observation, oral questioning, giving presentations and formal written assessments.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of your Diploma, you may wish to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Countryside Management. Alternatively you may prefer to look for employment as an assistant countryside ranger or work within estate management.
