Biology A Level at Bourne Grammar School

Course description

The aim of the course is for students to develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, Biology. Biology is a fascinating subject covering a broad range of disciplines from molecular genetics to physiology to ecology and our interactions with the environment. As a result of this, the range of careers that Biology can lead to is extensive.

Students will learn how Biology contributes to the success of our economy and of society. They will develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works; and develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of Biology and how they relate to each other. Students will be expected to attend a field work course as part of their studies. The A Level offers the opportunity to gain a broad spectrum of factual knowledge and an understanding of practical applications. It is a subject which combines well with many others. Biology includes the study of Biochemistry at AS and A2 Level. Students are advised that they need to have a strong foundation in both Chemistry and Mathematics in order to support their studies.
