ICT / AS at The Crest Academies

Course description

This exciting new specification brings the study of ICT up to date for the 21st century. It has the backing of a range of industries, higher education and the National Computing Centre.

The key points of this specification are that:

• it allows greater opportunities for practical work than previous specifications

• practical work is core to this course and opportunities are provided for students to do lots of practical tasks.

• students can be truly engaged in their studies by becoming active investigators rather than passive learners.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved grades C and above in English & Maths.


There are 4 units all together, 2 at AS level, where there are 2 exams at the end of the year covering each of the units. It is hoped one exam in January and the next in Summer. A further 2 units are delivered to those students who continue with the course, Unit 3 is a practical coursework assessment task and Unit 4 has an external exam.

Future opportunities

This course prepares students for any University course, or any employment route. The course is a practical course which means students are given the skills to prepare them for life.
