Performing Arts - Edexcel/BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 1) at Hopwood Hall College
The department has recently benefited from major investment and has already made significant impact within the college as well as within the wider local community. The course is project based, which means that you will have the opportunity to be involved
in the rehearsal and production of a number of works, Most of which will be performed to a variety of public audience. All level groups are encouraged to consider employability at all stages of their programme.
Whilst the acting pathways will be predominantly practical, students are encouraged to carry out related research tasks, as well as carrying out individual selfreflection via logbooks, blogs and video diaries.
This course is predominantly practical but you will be expected to present evidence of your coursework that may be in the form of a log book, video or sound recording, presentation as well as independent research tasks.
Learners on this course can take part in a huge variety of productions that the department produces throughout the year. In addition, other opportunities could include trips to the theatre, training for auditions, workshops with industry professionals
and participating in competitions.
Topics covered on these courses include a mix of mandatory and optional units and will vary depending on the level of study:
• Preparation, performance and production
• Acting skills
• Performance in context
• Movement skills
• Devising performance work
• Performing scripted plays
• Physical theatre
• Theatre directing
No formal qualifications.
No cost for 16-19 year olds.
After completing this course the next step is to progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Performing Arts.
