Photography BTEC Level 2 at Oldershaw Academy

Course description

Photography has undergone a revolution in the technology available to record images. Photography by definition uses light to create images digital or not, the underlying techniques for exposure control are the same. There is greater versatility available built into cameras but careful selection of features and control of conditions can make the difference between a snap and a thoughtful pleasing to the eye image. This course will explore the techniques that will lead to improved photography. Furthermore, a portfolio of images will be presented to demonstrate the student’s progress over various themes.

Course content

There is greater versatility available built into cameras but careful selection of features and control of conditions can make the difference between a snap and a thoughtful pleasing to the eye image. This course will explore the techniques that will lead to improved photography. Furthermore, a portfolio of images will be presented to demonstrate the student’s progress over various themes.

Entry requirements

English at grade C, Science at grade C or BTEC Pass at Level 2

Access to a digital camera with Hot Shoe, facilities to control aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Future opportunities

This is a level 2 course and will allow the student to gain access to level 3 courses at Higher Education establishments. It is a recognised course and will lead to employment opportunities but it must be stressed that a portfolio of the student’s best images would be needed as evidence by many establishments. This underlines the need to have an interest in photography and be constantly recording images and developing alternative techniques.
