ESOL at Palmer's College
You will be working with a group of students from all round the world, who have recently arrived in this country.
You will improve your spoken and written English, to help all your studies at Palmer’s.
You will gain a qualification to show you can communicate in English.
ESOL is offered at three levels in Palmer’s. At every level you will develop the basic literacy and English language skills that you need to be successful in College, at work and in everyday life. There are sections on listening, speaking, reading and writing.
All ESOL and IELTS classes support each language skill - listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will work in a small group.
ESOL Skills for Life entry-level 3
This is for students with very limited spoken English. It contains intensive language support, to help you in the rest of your College programme. This might include GCSE Maths, a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or Business, and perhaps GCSE Spanish.
ESOL Level 1
This is for students who have the ability to speak English in general situations, but who need more advanced to help their Level 2 or 3 programme in College.
ESOL Level 2
If you are more confident in your spoken English but struggle more with writing for our courses, or have not lived in the UK for very long, or do not speak English much at home, then this might be more suitable than GCSE English. If you stay on at Palmer’s you will be able to take GCSE English or, if you are planning to go to university at the end of two years in College, you can take the IELTS course.
Entry is based on an interview.
They can help you get a job or go to university, by giving you a well-known qualification to prove you can communicate effectively in English. We have very high success rates.
