Course description

The A level English Literature specification is designed to reward students who have a genuine love of literature and who are keen to read widely. The course will help students to express their views effectively and to consider and discuss other students’ interpretations of texts. Students will aim to develop a mature and assured essay writing style that allows them to explore language, form and structure confidently. Success at English Literature demonstrates an ability to think and communicate clearly, and it is the recognised A Level for those wanting to read English at University. Many students gain academic satisfaction and enjoyment from the course and continue their study at undergraduate level.

Made up of four units, it is intended that students will explore a topic in detail, reading widely from prose, poetry and drama. The A2 course builds on texts studied during AS.
