Course description

The units of study will include:* Working Safely and effectively during Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair* Foundation Skills for Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair* Light Vehicle Construction & Light Vehicle Maintenance* Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension systems* Operating Principles or Light Vehicle Engine* Operating Principles & Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission system* Operating Principles & Maintenance of Light Vehicle Electrical & Electronic SystemFunctional Skills: Students will also be required to carry out Key Skills qualifications in Communication and Application of Number at Level 1.The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical knowledge. Approximately 25% of the week will be classroom based.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade E including Maths and English and a successful interview

Assessment

Assessment is by theoretical testing and practical assignments.

Future opportunities

Successful candidates can progress to the IMI Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Level 2 or onto an apprenticeship.
