Biology (Human) AS OCR at Sandown Bay Academy
This is becoming a more popular A level subject which covers a range of modern and interesting topics about the human body and the human species, including the importance of plants and microorganisms and their interactions with human beings. It is a demanding course, respected and accepted by universities and higher education institutes, linking well with a variety of subjects. Key biological concepts are presented in real-world, work-related contexts. The specification is divided into biological topics, each containing different key areas. For assessment purposes, knowledge and understanding of main concepts are treated separately at AS; important links between different areas of biology are largely assessed synoptically at A2. Practical skills are integrated into theoretical topics but are assessed as separate tasks. An extended investigation forms the A2 coursework. AS Units: 1. Molecules, Blood and Gas Exchange 30% 2. Growth, Development and Disease 50% 3. Practical Skills in Human Biology 20% This is a practical subject and involves lab-based experiments. Enthusiasm, commitment, an inquiring mind and an interest in the way humans influence, and are influenced by, life on this planet, will help you to succeed in this subject.
