Physics AS A2 at Wrenn Academy
Physics in the Sixth Form is both exciting and challenging. The Salters course is a new and stimulating approach to physics with the core content being taught through up to date industrial application. Learn how the Universe develops, how chocolate biscuits and sweets are made, how the past leaves clues which can be detected, how we synthesise and record sounds, why we can use Crunchie bars to model bone, how satellites work, whether bungee jumping is safe and much, much more. The course is designed to be learner friendly, making innovative use of structured texts, activities and the full range of Information and Communications Technologies throughout the two years.Due to the variety of activities within the course, you will learn facts and new ways of thinking; you will develop invaluable skills in: practical and investigative work, ICT, problem solving, communication of ideas, mathematical application and self study. This is why Physics qualifications are recognised and respected as sound preparation for many scientific and non-scientific careers alike. All these will form a basis for further study directly in areas such as sciences, engineering, architecture, meteorology and medicine as well as indirectly in many other areas such as law or accountancy. The A-Level team is committed to helping all students reach their potential through support both in and out of the classroom. Whether you intend to study Physics for two years or just as an AS you will find it a stimulating and rewarding experience, developing invaluable skills which will help you with any degree or future career. Ideally, you would study AS Mathematics alongside Physics.
You will be assessed through module exams in years 12 and 13 and through assessed practicals, a written article of an industrial visit and a practical investigation both for AS and A Level qualifications.
